Penetration Testing a Buy Now, Pay Later Platform
The Challenge
The platform handled credit decisions and repayments for a fast-growing merchant network, with features shipping weekly and a market launch that required evidence of security for partners and regulators.
Automated scans produced noise but no confidence. The team needed proof of what an attacker could actually do across checkout flows, merchant APIs, the cloud estate, and the mobile apps.
“The chained finding through our merchant API would have let someone approve their own credit. We fixed it in days, and the retest gave our partners the assurance they asked for.”
The Execution
Scope
We defined test accounts, merchant sandboxes, and rules of engagement covering the web checkout, consumer and merchant APIs, the cloud environment, and both mobile apps.
Test
Manual testing chained a merchant API authorization flaw with a credit-decision logic gap, and found insecure storage and certificate handling in the mobile apps.
Report
Every finding shipped with reproduction steps, business impact, and a fix, ranked by what mattered for the launch and for partner due diligence.
Retest
After remediation we re-ran every finding across all three surfaces and issued a clean attestation for partners and regulators.
The Outcome
The platform launched on schedule with the credit-approval path closed and the mobile apps hardened, backed by a retest report partners accepted as evidence.
The company now runs a NodeRisk test before every major release and reuses the reports in merchant and regulator reviews.
